Key Facts

Location: Offshore GOM
Client Challenge: Consolidate and standardize outdated Fire and Gas Systems across all facilities due to obsolescence and lack of support for existing panels and devices.
Technology: Det-Tronics EQP & ControlLogix
Size of System: Det-Tronics EQP systems integrated with ControlLogix Safety System, including 2 Redundant Pairs of EQPs, 15 F&G panels, a total of 200 Flame/Gas detectors, and a total of 300 building fire detection devices. Additionally, there's a dedicated DLR between EQPs and ControlLogix Safety System.
Project Duration: 20 months

Scope of Project

This major design and upgrade project involved the replacement of all platform process areas and building fire and gas detection devices with addressable types. New Det-Tronics EQP control equipment was integrated with ControlLogix Safety System using dedicated DLR. The PSS interface was configured to communicate with EQP, and shutdown logic was updated to comply with the client's fire and gas shutdown philosophy. A dedicated Functional Design Specification was developed to comply with the client's Fire and Gas Philosophy. The project included cut-over planning and commissioning support.

Approach

To effectively execute the project, a systematic approach was used. The project began with the development of a Functional Design Specification (FDS) to meet the client's Fire and Gas philosophy. Critical documents were updated to fulfill client requirements and shutdown philosophy. Fire and gas vendor designs were reviewed to ensure completeness and compliance with the FDS. Coordination with project vendors and the client ensured that project timelines and scheduled activities were executed on time. All parties participated in factory acceptance tests to validate the system's functionality. Regular communication was maintained with the project team, scheduling meetings as needed to ensure alignment and timely resolution of any encountered issues. Coordination with the client facilitated thorough planning of the detailed cut-over of the new system and supported commissioning activities.

Client Benefits

The client benefited from improved reliability and a standardized system that ensured compliance with client philosophies. Spare parts were readily available and could be sourced fairly easily.
