Key Facts

Location: Offshore Gulf of Mexico
Client Challenge: Integrating new production flow line into existing production system
Technology: ControlLogix & PlantPAx (Studio 5000)
Size of System: 4 Integrated AB Process Control Systems (1756‐L75 version 20.058 kit 2), 3 Redundant Pairs and 1 Simplex System, Multiple RIO Panels for each controller, ControlNet for Process IO, Ethernet for Safety IO (SIL 2), Ethernet for package-based sub-systems
Project Duration: 18 months

Scope of Project

New flow line and equipment added to existing production platform control system using new PCS and PSS redundant controllers. Integrated as stand-alone systems into existing PCS, PSS, ESS and FGS process control and safety systems.

Approach

Front end engineering design (FEED) completed to determine necessary details based on project scope. Due to high utilization in existing PCS and PSS processors, new processors were added solely for monitoring and control of additional equipment. These new processors were integrated in-line with existing ones, sharing RIO space for new IO cards in existing racks and utilizing existing IO cards to support added IO points.

Client Benefits

Enhanced processing capabilities facilitate future platform equipment growth without burdening existing equipment. Maintained spare IO capacity without significantly increasing equipment footprint by utilizing existing and available hardware and integrated network. Integration of new equipment into existing control system ensures seamless operational support, minimizing need for additional training.
